What French Doors Can Offer Your Home?

Whether you’re purchasing your first pair of French doors or simply looking to upgrade we thought some further information would help with your choice.

French doors are also referred to as double doors as they often come in pairs. You can purchase sidelights also to accompany French doors. Sidelights are slightly thinner in width but sit at either side of your French doors. They add to the design but are usually glazed to allow extra light to filter throughout your home.

French doors used externally are perfect for adding natural light and fresh air into your home. They are smaller than bifold doors but still achieve that desired bonus of opening up your home. Used internally French doors have a similar benefit. Allowing light to spread through rooms as well as improving ventilation. Internal French doors connect rooms in a similar way to bifold doors as when open the increased opening allows living space to blend into one.

French doors can open either way; they tend to open outwards, so you don’t have the frames compromising your living space. French doors can open a full 180 degrees depending on wall space and installation.

French doors provide greater accessibility. Whether that’s useful for wheelchair users, bringing furniture into your home or simple handy for when you have guests over. French doors are functional as well as stylish.

French doors are just as secure as normal front and back doors. They use multi point locking systems and security glass in the same way as other external doors, so they are increasingly difficult to break into to.

If you are looking for your first pair of French doors, you might also want to know that usually planning permission isn’t required for French doors. Check with your local authority but usually it will be permitted.

French doors can add value to your home also so if you are still unsure, it’s nice to know the decision can pay off. Enjoy browsing our French doors but should you have any questions about any of our products please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
