Smart Home Devices coming out in 2020

While we’re going to be aiming this post at new or improved devices for the new year, you may spot a few familiar faces in some old tech. We’ve decided to include some of the most popular home devices from 2019, that are still standing up strong in 2020’s new tech market.

Amazon Echo Show

The Amazon Echo and Echo Dot were strong contenders for 2019 in the smart home world. Used by all ages, these Amazon devices occupied the market for its smart virtual assistant, simple and sleek design and affordable price tag. Although, still on track to be an extremely popular device for smart home enthusiasts, Amazon are releasing a new version; the Amazon Echo Show.

The Amazon Echo Show is Amazon’s first virtual assistant device to have an in-built screen which has boosted the potential of this device tenfold. The screen allows you to watch stream videos, make video calls and, by pairing it up to home security cameras, you can watch the footage from this device, too! And, with 8 microphones built-in, your virtual assistant can pick up on your voice no matter where you are in the room.

This device has a decent price tag, with it coming in at £77.99 – but, with it’s added capabilities, who’s surprised? This device is sure to push its predecessors out of the water!

Google Nest Learning Thermostat – 3rd Generation

Tying nicely into our first gadget, we have the Nest Learning Thermostat which can be voice-controlled by the Amazon Echo, Echo Dot and Echo Show. Nest is currently the leading brand for smart technology and it doesn’t look like they’re going to slow down for 2020.

The 3rd generation of Nest Thermostat is the only thermostat to earn the Energy Star, which means it’s independently certified to save energy, money and protect the climate. This piece of tech allows you to control the device through the WiFi app, has auto-scheduling and will automatically turn itself off when nobody is at home. This device will set you back £137* but you’ll reap the benefits on your electricity bill!

Whether you’re keeping to a budget or wanting to reduce your energy consumption, the Nest Learning Thermostat should definitely be on your list for the new year.

The Netgear Arlo Pro is a smart security system that can be used both indoors and outdoors. It has a large-angle lens that covers 130 degrees giving you complete coverage.

Unlike other security systems, the Netgear Arlo Pro has 2-way audio, with push-to-talk capability and comes with 7 days of free Cloud recordings.

The Netgear Arlo Pro is weatherproof and wire-free, so it’s easy to install and can be put anywhere that you please! It comes with a fully-HD camera and night vision, along with a deafening alarm that rings at 100+ decibels. So you can rest knowing that your home and family are protected.

The Arlo Pro can be purchased with 1 – 4 cameras so prices vary slightly. For the 1 camera, this device costs £189.99. For the Arlo Pro with 4 cameras, you’d be looking at a pretty hefty cost of £716.80. But, who can put a price on safety?

Ring made its, rather loud, entry into the smart device scene in 2019. Ring Video Doorbells have been installed and are being used across the globe – it’s such a great little gadget for taking that one step closer to complete home security. Ring Video Doorbell isn’t stopping in 2019. In fact, they’ve launched a pro version for 2020 and it’s looking to dominate the outdoor security market.

Ring Video Doorbell Pro has 2-way audio that allows you to speak to the visitor even when you’re not at home, via your smartphone. This device automatically records footage when the motion sensors are triggered and pings an alert to your smartphone. It has a wide-angle lens and records in HD. The Ring Video Doorbell Pro is weather-resistant and has night vision mode – it’s the perfect device for outdoor security.

The only downside to this product is, unlike the Netgear Arlo Pro, it’s a wired device so installation requires a little more time.

The Ring Video Doorbell Pro will set you back a whopping £229.00. But, with its 4 interchangeable faceplates and customisable motion zones, it’s well worth it!

Another device also compatible with Amazon Alexa is the Touchscreen Deadbolt from Schlage. This smart device is looking to become extremely popular in 2020, and with the added voice control by Amazon Alexa, it’s sure to be one of the most favoured home security devices of the year.

Schlage Connect Touchscreen Deadbolt, in theory, is a lock for your front door. But, this device has many tech perks that’ll keep your home secure for many years to come. The device stores up to 30 personalised user codes for entry, a durable touchscreen keypad, built-in alarm with 3 different alert settings and uses Z wave technology which allows you to automatically lock and unlock the door remotely.

But what happens if you forget your code? Schlage have you covered! This device also comes with a key as backup.

The price of this smart device is currently at £168.22*. This device is yet to make a full appearance in the UK but they’ll eventually be available to purchase on Amazon, so keep an eye out!
